Alberta (Bert) Jackson was born in Jackson, Mississippi to the union of Steven Johnson and Fannies Barnes on May 12, 1924, along with her twin sister, Alberia. Alberta (Bert) departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2009, with her family at her bedside.
Both parents have preceded her in death. She also had five other sisters and brothers: Namon and Lottie Mae (who preceded her in death), Hattie Thomas, and William.
Alberta (Bert) Jackson moved to Chicago, Illinois as a young woman in 1944, where she met and married William Jackson upon 60 years of marriage, William Jackson preceded her in death in 2004. To that union there were eight children born: Shirley A. Washington, Alvera L. Strong, Diane J. Guerra, Tyrone Jackson, Chiquita Cleveland, Michelle Jackson, and William Jackson (who preceded her in death)), and Andre Jackson. Alberta (Bert) was not only a mother to her children; she became "Mama" to her friends and all who were blessed to know her.
Alberta (Bert) leaves behind to mourn her passing her seven children; four siblings; thirteen grandchildren: Cheryl, Letita, Latanya, Rhonda, Sean, Alan, Lawrence (Little Larry, who preceded her in death), Tiffany, Dustin, Ebone, Blake, Derek and Zelig; three-great grandchildren: Isaiah, Travon and Isabella; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation and viewing will be held Golden Gate Funeral Home, 2036 W. 79th Street, Chicago, IL, 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Guest will be able to greet family from 6:00-8:00p.m. Services for Alberta (Bert) Jackson will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009, viewing 10:00 a.m., services at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2309 E. 80th Street, Chicago, IL., Dr. Alfloyd Bulter, Pastor and Officiating. Interment will take will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 115th and Fairfield
