Bessie Mae Jones was born on April 15, 1933 to the late Tommy Johnson and Pearl Brewer in Tunica, Mississppi. Bessie and her loving twin sister the late Jessie Mae Hicks were educated in Mississippi and migrated to Chicago in their early twenties. Bessie met and married the late George Jones and to this union four children were born; Pauline, Tyrone; Brenda and Ronnie. Tyrone preceded her in death and grandson Brandon. Bessie received Christ at an early age under Pastor Marvin Alexander at Union MB Church. She later joined Pillar Rock MB Church under Pastor James Hall. Bessie was a loving mother and grandmother who had a hand in raising her grandchildren.Bessie was well known for her cakes, pies, and various dishes. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grand and great grandchildren. She was blessed with a great sense of humor. She loved shopping and taking bus trips downtown.
Bessie leaves to cherish her memories; children, Pauline(Minnesota), Brenda (James) and Ronnie Jones; grandchildren, David, Latia, Brian, Jovan, Calvilina, Jontia, Tyrone and Jadiyah; great grandchildren, JaShaun, Brandon Jr., Blake, Trayvon, Imani, Tyler, Akira and Davianna, and niece Camille and a host of other relatives and friends.
