Claude B. Conwell, Jr. was born June 17, 1931 in Centerville, Alabama to Claude, Sr. and Ollie Mae Conwell. Claude, Jr. attended Calver High School and went to A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama where he was the star of the basketball team. Claude, Jr. served his country by enlisting into the Armed Forces during the Korean War; he received an Honorable Discharge in 1959. He was a strong believer in providing for his family. He worked long hours for many years; however, when time permitted, he loved sports. Claude Jr. (Con) was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. In retirement, he was able to partake in one of his favorite pastimes, horseracing. He was able to watch the Kentucky Derby only two days before his passing. For a short time, Con managed Buckwheat Lounge where he met and enjoyed the loyal employees and faithful customers. Claude B. Conwell , Jr. passed away on May 3rd, 2010, with his wife and daughter at his side. Those of us remaining here will remember Claude, Jr. for the joy and pains. His voice will linger for a time. His smile will slowly fade from our memories; but remember the times when he did or said something hat made you smile or made your heart feel glad; for this moment, close your eyes and remember Claude B. Conwell, Jr. "Con" for your special moment in time with him.
