Obituary

Elsie Mae Briggs, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at Holy Cross (Seasons Hospice) Hospital, Chicago, IL with her family at her bedside.

Mrs. Elsie Mae Briggs was born November 16, 1937 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Mr. Jessie J. Johnson and Jannie Mae (Dukes) Johnson, the eldest child born to this union.

Elsie attended Lincoln Senior High in East St. Louis. After High school, Elsie relocated to Chicago where she received her Associates Degree from Malcolm X College.

Elsie worked for the State Of Illinois for over thirty years, where she retired. She met and married Lynn Briggs who preceded her in death. Elsie was a member of The Eastern Star Organization. She enjoyed shopping, fine dining, playing her Blues music, and spending time with family and friends.

Elsie was preceded in death by her father, Jessie, mother, Jannie, and brother, Roosevelt Clark.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Kimberly Payton; three sons, Keith Payton, Ronald Payton, and Kelvin Briggs; one brother, Dan B. Amerson of Chicago; three sisters, Mary Horton (Curtis) of Belleville, Illinois, Dorothy Taylor (Eugene) of Harvey, Illinois, and Dora Huffinan of East St. Louis, Illinois; one uncle, Daniel Johnson; eleven grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Elsie Mae will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Viewing and Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.

All Services will be held at Golden Gate Funeral Home, 2036 W. 79th Street, Chicago, IL 60620

Interment: Will Be Held Privately.
