Obituary

H.J. Croff. A man that went by two initials can only be described as "One Heck of a Man." H.J. was a good man, but without a doubt, can best be described as a true character. He was always open and willing to tell people the truth, even when they didn't want to hear it. His magnetic and infectious personality drew people to him instantaneously. After a few minutes in a crowded room, H.J. would immediately be the center of attention. Everyone would gather around to hear one of his many adventurous tales.

H.J. was born on November 16, 1922 to the union of the late Randle Croff and Lena Houston in Sledge, MS.

H.J. worked as a ship builder in Oakland, CA during WWII and left later for Chicago where he landed a job at General Motors as a welder. His career spanned 33 years before retiring.

On December 31, 1980, he entered into marriage with Silverlean Singleton. Their love and dedication lasted 20 years until her passing.

H.J. lived a long and full life. He experienced things that most of us could only dream. But he made sure to share the lessons he learned along the way. He was a unique and outspoken man. TRULY ONE OF A KIND!!!

H.J.'s life ended on Saturday, March 16, 2013. He was loved and will forever linger in the memories of those who were blessed to have been in his presence.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roudorye, and sister, Willa Eva. As well as four daughters, Mary, Georgia (Fred), Carol, Jametrius, and one son, Michael.

H.J. leaves behind his daughters, Dorothy Jean (Elliot) of Chicago, IL, Christine of Chicago, IL, Linda of Chicago, IL, Deborah (Dee) of Chicago, IL, Delores Croff of Chicago, IL, LaShorage (Eric) of West Bloomfield, MI, Comanica of Calumet City, IL, LaTonya (Tim) of Glendale, CA and one son, Kylyn of Chicago, IL. 29 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Three life long friends, Mr. Carey, Mr. Scott and Mr. Valentine and dear cousin Marian Elder will sorely miss him. He also leaves a host of family and friends.

H.J. leaves a huge void in this world. We will always be reminded of his bluntness and wit.
