Jeffery Lenn Smith was born on July 29, 1943 to Jeffery Smith, Sr. and Willie Mae Staggers in Dermott, Arkansas. He was the second of five children.

Jeffery married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Terry. This union was blessed with five children. Jeffery confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was Baptized at Thessalonians MB Church in St. Louis, MO. He began his education at the Chicot County Training School in Dermott, Arkansas and later moved to St. Louis Public School System.

Jeffery leaves to cherish his memory; his wife Margaret; sons; Jeffery, Darren, and Brian (Babbetta), daughters; Lynette (Keith) and Kathleen; brother; Bernard (Tina), sister; Beverly, eight grandchildren Darrell, Terrell, Jerome, Andrew, Tosha, Terry, Charsetta, Brian and Anna. Eighteen great grandchildren; four bother-in-laws, three sisters-in-laws, and a host of other family and friends.
