Rev. Dr. John H. Burke, Jr. was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the second oldest of five children born to John Henry, Sr. and Pearl S. Burke. Dr. John Henry Burke, Jr. made his transition and entered onto eternity with our Lord on Tuesday morning, October 6, 2009, with his loving family at his side.
Rev. Dr. John Henry Burke, Jr. is survived by his loving wife, Mamie Ruth (Lewis) Burke, his two daughters and son-in-laws, Alfreda (Rodrick) Dixon and Renee (Bill) Davis, and two grandchildren, Danielle Davis and Dean Perrin, Jr. one brother, Lawrence Dean (Anne), one sister, Betty Lou Tyner; as well as a host of adorning nieces, nephews, relatives, members and friends.
While he labored diligently, Dr. Burke was called to Bel-Aire Park MB Church and later accepted the pastorate of First Mennonite Church of Chicago, where he and his wife have served and led tirelessly, lovingly and faithfully for 36 years. During the 36 years of Pastor Burke's ministry, many accomplishments have been made because of his steadfast faith, action and love for God and His people.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009, with viewing and visitation at 10:00a.m., and the services at 11:00 a.m., being held at First Mennonite Church of Chicago, 1477 W. 73rd Street, Chicago, IL 60620.
