Obituary

Bro. John Simon Cushman was born August 10, 1925 in Rolling Fork, Mississippi to Levi Cooper and Andrew Cushman. His other known sibling was a brother, Andrew Cushman. Bro. Bro. Cushman was honored as a Senior Legend in March 2009, by The Midwest District of the United Pentecostal Council of God. During this event he shared that his mother passed when he was a baby and his father left to rear a very young family, which proved to be a challenge, however he enlisted the aid of his sister, Idella Bankston and her husband. This led his introduction to Jesus as Lord and Savior because his aunt being the God fearing woman she was often took him to church and prayed for him. Bro. Cushman related that his formal education was limited but God allowed him to learn to read and write/ Bro. Cushman reported that in 1992 he married Johnny Jones, but the marriage was later dissolved. He reported prior to his marriage, he had three children but their whereabouts were not known. Bro. Cushman joined Progressive Beulah Pentecostal Church in 1991. He will fondly be remembered for his testimony, "I will serve the Lord until the day I die" and "I will come to church as long as my health allows me". He loved his Church and was especially close to his Pastor whom he treated like a son. We will also remember his spirit of generosity particularly the month of August when he will share his birthday cake and fried chicken. His favorite songs were "I am on the battlefield for my Lord" and "Praise Him". Bro. Cushman is survived by his family, his Senior Building friends and his Progressive Beulah Church family.
