Obituary

Lawrence Lee Fisher was the second of 5 children born to the union of Thomas Sr. and Mildred Ellen Fisher who preceded him in death. He began his life journey on June 3, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. His family and friends as "Bubba" and "Larry" affectingly knew Lawrence. Bubba was an avid sports fan, sport participant and collector of sports periodicals. In addition, he was quite a collector of comic books, especially DC and Marvel Comic Books. As a fitness buff, he was often seen doing all types of exercises. During the summers of his youth, he could be found playing baseball almost everyday. If he was not on the baseball diamond, you could find him on the basketball court. He was known all over for having one of the most consistent jump shots in the area. His favorite teams were the Yankees Baseball Team and the Boston Celtics Basketball team. Lawrence graduated from Southern Illinois University, where he received a B.A. in Political Science. While at SIU, Lawrence helped to feed the impoverished with the breakfast program. Lawrence would walk many miles with other brothers til he had holes in his shoes praising God throughout Southern, Illinois. Lawrence wanted to become a lawyer where he could help the less fortunate. He accepted the Islam religion while attending SIU. Lawrence met his lovely wife Linda, of 37 years of marriage, and was blessed with 2 wonderful sons, Kareem and Shomari. Lawrence was fortunate enough to have various professional jobs, such as Financial Aid Director at University of Illinois and Computer Specialist at AT&T, where he worked with dedication until his illness. Lawrence was soft spoken and a man of few words to most, but for those who knew him, he would talk your ears off, especially about politics, sports and current affairs. Lawrence was born into eternal life on Monday, November 12, 2009, to God's loving care after a long illness, He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father, and devoted friend who always cared about others.
